SIIF Official Blog: “Those Who Hold Capital Have a Responsibility to Address Social Challenges” — Impact Investors from Malaysia and Japan Discuss the Future of B Corp and Investing

The latest post on the official SIIF blog features an interview with Datuk Wira Johan Rozali-Wathooth, Founder and CEO of Malaysian impact investment firm Bintang Capital Partners, who visited the SIIFIC office at the end of July. He was joined in conversation by Kazuhiko Umeda, Co-Founder of SIIFIC; Michiru Toda of SIIF; and Misa Takaramoto of SIIFIC.

The interview was inspired by two earlier encounters. One was an article written by the late Reiri Miura and published in the SIIFIC Newsletter on December 16, 2025, titled “How Does Bintang Weave ‘Intent’ into ‘Outcomes’?.” The other was a panel discussion at the B Corp Asia Summit in Malaysia, where Datuk Wira Johan Rozali-Wathooth and SIIF’s Michiru Toda participated as panelists together.

After reading Miura’s article, Datuk Wira Johan Rozali-Wathooth visited Japan. During his visit, he kindly visited the SIIFIC office to express his appreciation for the article, which had featured Bintang Capital Partners, and to pay his respects to Miura.

The conversation covered a wide range of topics, from what first inspired them to enter impact investing, to their investment approaches and what they hope to pass on to the next generation. They also discussed the current state and challenges of impact investing around the world and in Asia, as well as their perspectives on the future of the impact investing market.

The interview brought together impact investors from different countries and backgrounds, who shared their experiences and perspectives and reflected on the broader possibilities of impact investing across borders.
